CREATING UNIQUE SOLUTIONS FOR OVER 30 YEARS!

OUR CRAFT

WE HAVE A LONG HISTORY OF SERVING OUR CLIENTS AND WORKING WITH UNIQUE APPLICATIONS.

Echo Etching has been imaging, etching, carving, and color-treating custom decorative flat glass since the 1980s. We work with Architects, Interior Designers, Graphic Designers, Sign Makers, Donor Recognition Specialists and anyone who has a unique project that requires creative solutions for a truly custom look and function. Since we have no fixed product line, we collaborate with designers and creative specialists from all over the world and we create it – together. Makes catalog shopping seem sort of ordinary and a bit boring, doesn’t it?

At Echo Etching, we provide samples, budget estimates, and consulting services at no up-front charge. We also work with glass contractors and general contractors by supplying quotations on items specified. And, we understand the technical side of the challenge to glaziers, so we work with them to get the job done right.

WHAT IS PHOTORESIST?

Photoresist – The Etching Process; Resists and Abrasives (Okay all you “techies,” school is in session)

So what is resist? In our world, resist is any material or object used to mask off and protect the glass from receiving the abrasive etch technique.

Remember, we shoot Aluminum Oxide (not sand) at glass under specific air pressures to gain the exact effect we are after — it’s a more consistent abrasive for our craft.

During the creative process, we provide you with control and choice, working with various types of resists to achieve the desired result. The decision to use one kind of resist over another depends on your particular imaging requirements.

Hand cut resist requires tracing the original artwork onto a heavy peel-and-stick vinyl and removing the areas to be etched. For one of a kind etched pieces, this process is often the most cost-effective. Machine cut resists are used for precision when many identical and more complex images are involved.

Echo’s photo-resist techniques offer the most precise method to reproduce highly detailed images. Under darkroom conditions, the glass receives a light-sensitive emulsion. Subsequently, a film positive of the image is applied to the dry emulsion, which is then hardened by a timed exposure to a controlled range of ultraviolet light — this becomes our masking agent or resist.

To bring it all home, Echo controls the etching phase of its glass imaging operations with precisely graded, abrasive crystals of aluminum oxide, silicon carbide or other media applied with an air gun at various pressures to create that unique, decorative touch which is abrasive-etched glass.

In summary, Echo Etching is your creative ally when it comes to creating something truly unique. Doesn’t your next decorative glass creation deserve to stand out from the crowd?
